DIY Level 1 - General Maintenance Instructions
Many Perkins Braillers that have stopped working only need to be cleaned and oiled to function properly again. These videos provide a step-by-step guide to the basic maintenance which may be required every few years.
Please do not attempt to do more complex repairs, unless you are certified by Perkins. Our braillers are made up of over 700 pieces and require in-depth knowledge of to properly repair. For more repair options, please visit our Service & Repair Section.
When do you need to clean your brailler?
- Light to moderate use (i.e., a few hours a week): clean once a year
- Heavy use (i.e., daily use, such as in school or work): clean once every other year
- Very heavy use (i.e., used daily for more than an hour at a time): clean every three years

What you need: tools and materials for cleaning your brailler

- One 1.75 oz Tube of Lubriplate Grease
- One 2 oz Bottle of Brailler Oil
- Cotton Swabs
- One 1 oz Bottle of Isopropyl alcohol
